Ithaca

2015   21m   16mm 1.85

The myth of the great return…

Comprised entirely of family photographs spanning five generations, Ithaca presents a lyrical study of time and memory. The film explores the capacity of photography both to capture people and places in time and act as an artefact of their passing. As a sensory experience, Ithaca probes the haptic potential of the image and the place of sound in the act of remembrance.

Available for exhibition as a single 16mm print, accumulative degradation through the process of screening accelerates the film's inevitable erasure.

N.B. The first half of the film is intentionally without sound.
