A journey into radio silence…

An Arts University Bournemouth graduation film, AUROЯUA documents a journey from urban London to the wilderness of Southwest Scotland. Taking the presence of analogue radio transmission as a structural kernel, an environmental study of sound unfolds. The landscape within the radio-isolating granite mountains encircling Galloway Forest Park, known locally as the ‘Ring of Fire’, is juxtaposed with the radio-saturated geography of London.

AUROЯUA engages with the visible and invisible strata of our acoustic world to deliver a phenomenological study of sound. Ultimately, this approach is utilised to conjure the experience of vertigo – the end point of this journey into silence. Another journey, described in Sara Maitland's A Book of Silence, provided the inspiration for this project.
